    One of my colleagues, photographer Steve Cannerelli, spent an evening last week capturing the photo gallery you see at the beginning of the piece: He walked the streets of downtown Syracuse, and he focused on many images of the city at night - including some shots that illustrate a new emphasis on illuminating prominent downtown landmarks. That movement really started about 15 years ago, when Niagara Mohawk brought in Howard Brandston, a New York City lighting specialist who had handled such projects as illuminating the Statue of Liberty, to illuminate NiMo's headquarters on Erie Boulevard .
